Brief History of CK Community Hub
In June 1981, The Cottage Kitchen (CK) opened the doors of 160 St Vincent Street, Port Adelaide as a low-cost café. It provided a haven and a listening ear for people in need and soon became famous for heart-warming soups, Devonshire teas and homemade pasties.
It has been a base for many activities. It became a place to share friendship and skills such as cooking basic meals, serving on tables & various crafts. Many from the local and wider community have contributed to its life.
In April 2019, the name of this venture was changed to CK Community Hub (CK). This reflects the change of focus from a cafe to a place where people can meet, share and foster friendship and skills. Eating together is still very much valued.
The Uniting Church in Australia (SA) Property Trust owns CK Community Hub building. CK is managed by a committee which is responsible to the Port Adelaide Uniting Church. The CK Committee oversees the use of the site and runs some programmes and events. CK people also offers facilities, and support to groups serving local needs.
Our Aims
To welcome all;
To actively find and work with local people;
To make real friendships and grow together;
To be a place where people can stop and talk about daily things;
To be a safe place where people are not left behind in the rush.
